RELAXING/DE-STRESSING MASSAGE

Holistic massage techniques are used to de-stress the mind and loosen muscles. Great for those who are feeling stressed, need to unwind after a hard week at work, or simply just enjoy being pampered; the healing touch is proven to help general wellbeing.

Treatment consists of long relaxing strokes and kneading at your chosen pressure. A pain-free way to relax your muscles and mind.

SPORTS MASSAGE

A variety of sports massage techniques are employed on those who wish to improve their sporting performance, or to aid recovery and rehabilitation after injury to restore normal function.

We cater for each stage of your sports training programme to aid your journey to peak fitness and performance, including pre and post sporting event.

The treatment may include deep tissue massage, soft tissue release and trigger point work alongside stretching and strengthening techniques.

ADVANCED CLINICAL MASSAGE

Clinical Massage is an outcome based massage therapy that uses a variety of advanced techniques.  Suitable for people of all ages and lifestyles with chronic musculo-skeletal pain and dysfunction. We aim to reduce your pain and increase range of joint movement in 1-6 treatments (dependent on the severity of condition).

Clinical Massage can be used to treat a wide variety of soft tissue pain conditions including repetitive strain injuries, neck pain, lower back pain, knee pain, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, sports injuries, carpel tunnel, golfers/tennis elbow, whiplash, frozen shoulder, postural issues, fibromyalgia and many more.

HOT STONE THERAPY

Hot Stone Therapy can be used to simply provide a relaxing de-stressing massage, or used to increase the effectiveness of Clinical Massage.  It is claimed one stroke of hot stone massage is the equivalent to 10 massage strokes by hand.

It can be used to decrease pain, increase blood supply to aid healing, reduce muscle spasm, increase functional movement, prepare muscles and fascia for deep clinical massage and aid relaxation and sleep, reducing stress.

Hot and cold stones may be used within a treatment alongside flowing strokes to relax muscles, or within a clinical massage treatment to promote healing.

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE

Indian Head Massage has it’s origins in the Hindu health care practice of Ayurveda. Today it has been adapted for the western world to focus on the head, face, neck and shoulders, but can also include arms and hands, if desired.

It is a great ‘de-stresser’ and also stimulates the head and scalp; improving hair growth and condition.  It can relieve stress headaches, reduce muscle pain in the head, neck and shoulders by increasing blood flow, reduce the effects of emotional stress and improve sleep patterns.

Indian Head Massage uses a variety of techniques and pressures. A treatment can be tailored to your personal requirements and the use of oil in the hair is optional. Clients also have the option to remove clothing to shoulder level or be massaged over clothing.

MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is an advanced therapy where a range of specialised and gentle rhythmic pumping techniques are used to move the skin to encourage the flow of lymph. It is both preventative and remedial, enhancing wellbeing.

MLD relieves fluid congestion, including puffy eyes/face, swollen ankles, PMT, and excess swelling experienced during pregnancy.  It is a great ‘detox’ after times of excess and may also boost the immune system, improve chronic conditions such as sinusitis and rheumatoid arthritis, and aid many skin conditions.

MLD promotes the healing of fractures, strains, sprains, and the healing of wounds, bruising and burns. It has been successfully used to speed healing after cosmetic surgery and joint replacement surgery, and has improved the appearance of old scars and reduces stretch marks. Above all it is deeply relaxing and can positively impact sleep.

REFLEXOLOGY

The art of Reflexology relates back to Ancient Egypt, India and China. Reflexology therapy is based on the theory that different points on the feet/hands correlate with different parts/organs of the body. Reflexology therefore helps the body naturally restore balance. After a reflexology treatment, you may feel relaxed, de-stressed and sleep better, with improved mood and wellbeing. Some people claim other benefits including a reduction of pain.

The therapist applies pressure with their hands using different techniques. Although some areas of the feet may experience tenderness, the overall treatment will feel relaxing.

THERAPEUTIC ULTRASOUND

Therapeutic ultrasound is a modality that has been used by physiotherapists since the 1940’s. It uses electrical impulses to treat soft tissue injuries.

The treatment promotes healing by increasing local blood flow in such tissues as muscles, tendons, connective tissue and ligaments.

Ultrasound is typically used for:

• Muscle or tendon strains/tendonitis

• Sprains                  • Muscle spasms

• Scar tissue            • Local swelling

• Inflammation       • Myofascial pain

During the treatment, gel is applied to the skin, which help the sound waves evenly penetrate. Some people feel a mild pulsing during ultrasound therapy, while others may feel a slight warmth in the skin. Don’t be surprised, however, if you feel nothing at all, apart from the cold gel on your skin.

Ultrasound in physical therapy is not to be confused with diagnostic ultrasound, which is used to see inside the body.

SCENAR® THERAPY

SCENAR® technology can provide effective relief from acute & chronic pain, together with promoting faster recovery times than you would otherwise expect.

It can be particularly effective on certain chronic conditions where other treatments have failed, and it is compatible with existing medical care and medication.

The SCENAR® device is a small hand-held, non-invasive, electrotherapeutic device. It is intended to be used as an analgesic peripheral nerve stimulator, to be placed on the skin to treat pain associated with surgery, trauma, dental and musculoskeletal problems.

The SCENAR® device establishes a feedback link with the body when in use, constantly changing the properties of the applied electrical impulses, depending on the measured reaction from the body.

You can find us and other Scenar therapists at www.scenartherapist.co.uk
